Never Miss Twice

James Clear is the best-selling author of Atomic Habits: An Easy And Proven Way To Build Good Habits And Break Bad Ones. James has a simple rule when he reviews his habits: never miss twice. We are not perfect, but we must choose to be consistent. Consistency is greater than perfection. Consistency is like compounding interest: building into something HUGE over time one little daily investment at a time. You are not a monk. You are not perfect. You don't have to be. Ate Five Guys? Have something healthy the very next meal. Missed a workout today? Make sure you get after it tomorrow. Got upset? Point out something you're grateful for when you calm back down. Our path is NOT about perfection. This doesn't exist. The pressure of being perfect is ridiculous to expect of ourselves. But we CAN be consistent. We NEED to be. The wealth, wellness, vitality, and happiness that comes from consistency is why we are here together. As Clear writes, " The first mistake is never the one that ruins you. It is the spiral of repeated mistakes that follows. Missing once is an accident. Missing twice is the start of a new habit." He continues, "I think this principle is so important that I'll stick to it even if I can't do a habit well or as complete as I would like... the problem is not slipping up; the problem is thinking that if you can't do something perfectly, then you shouldn't do it all. You don't realize how important it is to show up on your bad (or busy) days... the bad workouts are often the most important ones... simply doing something is huge. Don't put up a zero." Never miss twice. Heroes don't do zeros. ;)
